Modules
William Golding and the Archive (EAS3189)
30 credits
This module focuses on the writings of the Nobel-Prize-winning novelist William Golding (1911-1993). Taking advantage of the extensive archival holdings at the University of Exeter – which include all the manuscripts and drafts relating to Golding’s first ten published novels – the module will examine Golding’s compositional practices even while it addresses his engagement with issues such as the place of religion in a world of scientific advances, the problem of evil, relations between the sexes, and the parts played by dream and by visionary experience in the creative imagination.
