Postgraduate Researcher
English and Creative Writing

I completed my PhD in the Department of English and Creative Writing in May 2026. My research explores interdisciplinary approaches for writers of ‘time-playful’ children’s literature who engage with silenced histories. My PhD creative project – now in development towards publication – was 'The Island of Last Hope', a middle grade novel set in Falmouth in 1944 and the present day. My critical commentary examined the ways in which contemporary children’s authors are using time-playful fiction, particularly in relation to telling stories out of archival silence. My PhD supervisors were Professor Wendy O’Shea Meddour and Dr Nazneen Ahmed Pathak.
