Mr Jezz Vernon
Senior Lecturer in Film Studies (E&R)
Alongside his role as a Senior Lecturer at Exeter, Jezz is a working film and TV producer and distributor. He is the incoming Course Director for the Exeter side of the MA in the International Film Business, the course is run in partnership with the London Film School.
The bulk of Jezz’s research work is in practical application, he produces and distributes independent films and TV that lean toward diverse voices and themes, as well as international work with a focus on African countries. He is particularly interested in emerging trends and innovation within the International film industry, and how independent film has had to adapt to find new routes to market in the the age of the streamers.
He has distributed over 500 films in his career in the UK and internationally, including several Academy Award Winners and Bafta nominees.
Jezz has particular expertise in marketing, design, strategic distribution and managing small to medium commercial enterprises in the media space.
He can offer supervision to work relating to the International Film Industry, UK independent film production, and film marketing and distribution.
External impact and engagement
Since 2015 Jezz has been a board member of the charity Film London - the capital’s strategic agency for the screen industries. He has also lectured at the National Film & Television school, amongst many other HE establishments and has mentored emerging producers for a variety of organisations including national screen agencies in UK & Eire. He has visited Beijing and Durban at the invitation of local film commissions with a focus on forming international co-productions with the UK, and also executive produces a number of projects each year, steering production through the post, sales and distribution processes.
Before becoming an independent producer in 2015 he was Managing Director of Metrodome Distribution and Metrodome International – a UK based independent film distributor and sales agent.
Jezz is the incoming Course Director for the MAIFB.
